#SheExports Accelerator – A unique acceleration program promoting and accompanying women-owned businesses (WOBs) on their journey to bring Vietnamese agri-products to the world, with the support of Meta, the Women Entrepreneurs Finance Initiative Fund (We-Fi) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The program aims to help WOBs participating to the global agricultural supply chain and scaling up their business internationally.
Located in Mekong Delta area of Vietnam, An Giang is a cultural hub of many indigenous groups including Khmer (Cambodian Vietnamese), Cham (Cham Vietnamese), and Hoa (Chinese Vietnamese). Khmer ethnic people mostly live in the community of Bay Nui including two rural towns Tri Ton and Tinh Bien. Bay Nui is not only famous for beautiful scenery with mountains and paddle fields but also its wildly grown palmyra trees. Even though palmyra trees can be found in other towns in An Giang too but they mostly grow wildly in Bay Nui area, where mostly Khmer ethnic people live and the production of palmyra nectar is considered to be their traditional occupation.
Palmania palmyra nectar is made from inflorescence sap of WILD palmyra (Borassus Flabellifer) trees in Vietnam.
It takes at least 30 years until a wild palmyra tree is ready for its first nectar harvest. From that time, the nectar can be harvested yearly until the tree reaches its natural lifespan, which can be over 100 years. Palmyra nectar production is inherently ethical and sustainable because tapping does not harm the trees or shorten their lifespan.
Harvesting season is in the dry season in the south of Vietnam, which normally happens from November to June of the following year. To harvest the sap which is then used to make the nectar, farmers climb the trees, make the cuts on the flower surface and put a container under that. The sap is then boiled to create soft palmyra nectar. From soft palmyra nectar sourcing directly from our farmers, we apply advanced drying techniques to create the finest palmyra nectar.
